The changes in landcover that have occurred in the Maryborough/Fraser Island area of Queensland; 25/08/72 to 21/08/91. In this area, with the tip of Fraser Island just visible and the city of Maryborough just out of the top left hand side, the extent of clearing of eucalypt woodland and its replacement by plantation forests dominates the whole scene. If you examine the first and last FCC images, you can interpret the various methods by which the native landcover was removed and replaced by exotic plantations. This scene covers the Tuan State Forest, so we can assume this most of the landcover change is under the control of a state agency. However, private sector conversion of forest landcover to crops and pastures has also occurred in this scene.
