This sign was composed and erected at the request of two field hands at an exploration site in South Australia in 1978. The field hands involved, or 'roughnecks' as they are known, had composed this list of sensible and responsible directions after a long and fruitful interaction with the pastoralist on whose lease they were working. I witnessed the conversion of two uncaring field hands into two concerned individuals. I doubt whether either of the two field hands knew what a conservationist was.
