SPOT image of Darwin

An image of Darwin acquired by the SPOT satellite. The spatial resolution (pixel size) of this image data is 20m x 20 m. This is to be compared with the 80m x 60 m. of Landsat MSS that is used throughout the book. The high spatial resolution of this data simplifies the interpretation of a considerable amount of detail of landcover change. However, just using one image like this allows you to explore the information that you can extract from such incredibly powerful data. Darwin readers will be at home with this image. For the remainder, there are far too many points of interest to bring to your notice. After contemplating the enormous wealth of information in this image, we can ask - what significant change in this urban environmental would not be detected using satellite data with this fine resolution?
